I grew up surfing in Santa Cruz and love the ocean. This Surf rich coastline is the best place to live. I’m a father, husband, and a social worker for the VA locally.

Why did you join the challenge?
I believe everyone deserves a chance and overcoming challenges opens new doors.

I’m a surfer from Carmel currently living at the FleaHab house. Before coming to the house I was unable to stay sober for more than a month. I’m currently 7 months sober and owe a lot of that to being here at the house in the program that Flea created.

Why did you join the challenge?
I joined because Flea told me I had to. Hahaha jk. I believe in the program and hopefully I can help raise some money for a great cause.

I grew up in Point Loma San Diego , Santa Cruz and back to San Diego. 7 years sober and so grateful. Absolutely open to help anyone struggling and always up to go out and catch a couple!

Why did you join the challenge?
I’ll do anything to help keep any soul from living in the pain of addiction.

I've got five plus years clean and sober. Was homeless and now I live an incredible life with the help of the program. Didn't surf for seven years and now I have a solid sober crew I surf with and go on trips with. Super blessed.

Why did you join the challenge?
Just a little way to try and help others that are in the same situation I was. I know how therapeutic the ocean is and I can't believe I spent 7 years out of it. It's a great way to help heal from addiction.

Started Surfing in 1986 and started heroin in 1996. Of course, it consumed my life. The ocean/surfing was the only place I felt comfort. After getting clean, I spent a decade working in rehabs. Also volunteered with Surfers for Autism for years.

Why did you join the challenge?
We lose WAY too many of our ocean lovers to this and only people that have walked thru hell can understand the struggle. I want to do anything I can to support the community and sport that has saved my life.

My name is Alex. I am 36 years old and this will be the 23rd year of surfing being the main focus in my life. I struggle with mental illness, yet the ocean can be my healing force. A lot of my friends have struggled with substance abuse and I think this is a great way to help.

Why did you join the challenge?
Losing friends to overdoses and losing the most important person to ever be in my life makes me want to be there for all the addicts in my life. This seems like a great way to support those that are struggling without getting directly involved in borderline enabling.

I’m a born and raised Santa Cruz Local, Father of a 5-year old girl, and I work up at UCSC. Spent a lot of my life strung out and wasted partying, but am coming up on 7 years totally clean and sober. Found a 2nd chance and am re-engaged with life and all its joys, including starting to surf again!!

Why did you join the challenge?
I fully support FleaHab and all its endeavors. I appreciate and admire Flea for dedicating his time and energy to making real change in this community and in so many peoples lives. Starting to surf again has been a part of my recovery process, and I would be proud to participate.

I have been clean and sober for 2+ years. I know I must not drink. I enjoy helping others to get clean and sober. I realize sobriety works best when you try and pass the message to others. When we’re helping we become less self obsessed about our problems. We even get a bit of self esteem back too.

Why did you join the challenge?
I joined the wave challenge because the house has personally helped me and many others.

I'm an addict and have been my whole life. I've self medicated for my bipolar disorder and that always leads to addiction. I am now clean of any illicit drugs, I used THC and a very small amount of alcohol to regulate. I'm doing very well now and I'm very honest about my past and I want to help.

Why did you join the challenge?
I'm very empathetic and I know firsthand what it's like to be an addict and feel completely out of control. I don't make much money and I don't have much to give but I want to do something and I have a lot of friends that I know that support me and would help out with this. I love this.
